Speedway meeting consists of a series of races called „heats” (or „bieg” in polish). Four riders take part in every heat. Todays meeting is a league match. This means, that in every heat there will be a pair of home riders and a pair of guests. How to tell them apart?

The easiest way is to look at their helmets color. Our riders are always in  red and blue helmets, and the vistiors are always in yellow and  white.

To win a league match you need 46 points. In each of the fifteen heats there are 6 points to be earned.

Points in each heat:

  • 1 place – 3 points
  • 2 place – 2 points
  • 3 place – 1 point
  • 4 place – 0 points

Just add points that both pairs scored, and you will get a heat result.

For example: If Betard Sparta Wrocław (home team in red and blue helmet) finish the race on first and second position – heat result will be 5 to 1 for the home team.

After all fifteen heats are over, sum up all the points scored by both teams to get a match result. Match winner gets two match points. If the match ends with a tie, both teams get 1 match point each.

To keep up with the score, look at the big screen located on the first bend of the track or into a match programme.

Match programme has two functions: first of all, this is a great way to keep up and record score in a scoreboard; secondly this is also a club magazine – full of articles, interviews and insight news from our club. You can purchase your programme in one of the specialy marked sales stands as well as in the merchandise shops around the stadium.

Already got your match programme? Right in the middle, you’ll find a scoreboard with a list of all today’s heats, names of the riders and helmet colors for each of the heats. You can also write all the scores directly on the scoreboard, as well as any changes in the line-up. How will you there’s a change? We will show that on the big screen and the announcer will say that as well (in polish only unfortunatelly).

We are Betard Sparta Wrocław. Right here, on the legendary Olympic Stadium in Wrocław we are racing for more than 70 years. For the last thirty years, our club name is Wrocławskie Towarzystwo Sportowe, WTS in short (this is the big chant going through the stadium when we win a heat!). Also, for more than 14 years now, we are riding alongside our Title Sponsor – Betard.

This year, as always, we are trying to win the most important speedway trophy in the world – Polish Team Championship. Why is Polish title most important in the world? Well, that’s because Polish PGE Ekstraliga is by far the best speedway league in the world.

Betard Sparta Wrocław team consists of some of the best speedway riders in the world. Our team captain is Maciej Janowski, currently third rider in the world. The on with the most titles won is Tai Woffinden, British triple speedway world champion. Not many riders in this sport achived that much! But as we are always saying – You, the Fans, are the most important piece of our team. Without your support, any success would be imposible.

Betard Sparta Wrocław competes in a league called PGE Ekstraliga. This is, by far, the most elite and difficult speedway league in the world.

There are eight teams in PGE Ekstraliga. There are also two lower divisions in Poland – 1st league and 2nd league. If you’re not winning – you can get relegated! There are speedway leagues in countries such as United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark or Germany as well. But its’ the Polish league that attacts all the best speedway riders in the world.

There are two phases in PGE Ekstraliga season: regular season and play-offs. In the regular season, eight teams meet each other head-to-head in two matches – one home and one away. After the regular season is over, six best teams enter the play-offs. There meetings are held in a knock-out formula, with two matches in every round (one home and one away), and the team that has more points after two matches advances to the next round and so on.
